Wentworth Visits Seton

On Friday, December 2, 2005, Dr. Zorica Pantic-Tanner, President of Wentworth Institute of Technology visited Elizabeth Seton Academy. She was accompanied by Mr. Dan Flatley, a board of trustee member at Wentworth, Erin Carroll, a current Wentworth student and Vanessa Foote, Admissions Counselor. Dr. Pantic-Tanner addressed the entire student body, 75 students from Grade 9-12. Dr. Maureen White, the new Principal of Elizabeth Seton feels it is never too early to impress upon the students the importance of a college education.

Dr. Pantic-Tanner is the first female engineer to become President of the Wentworth Institute of Technology. She explained to the students that Wentworth has been the leader in technology education. An important feature of Wentworth’s career-focused education is the Co-operative Education Program. The third and fourth year students are required to work one semester each year in a job related to their major. This invaluable practical experience helps Wentworth students. Dr. Pantic-Tanner then told our students that a person with a college education will likely earn a million dollars more than a person without a college degree. That figure certainly caught the students’ attention.

Dr. Pantic-Tanner then introduced Erin Carrroll, a server at Wentworth Institute. Ms. Carroll gave the students a great overview of Wentworth and a detailed description of the three internships of which she was involved.

Admissions Counselor Foote gave materials to the students. This was followed by a question and answer period where the students asked excellent and pertinent questions.

The assembly ended with the President inviting the ESA ladies to come to the campus, even stay overnight at the dormitories and receive a comprehensive tour of the college.

Dr. White thanks Ms. Pantic –Tanner expressing that this assembly was superb.
